Podgorica, (MINA) - Montenegro and Ireland share a strong European vision and the belief that a credible enlargement policy is in the interest of the stability and future of the entire Europe, it was stated during a meeting between Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic and his Irish counterpart Catherine Connolly.
Milatovic met with Connolly in Dublin on Wednesday, as part of his official visit to Ireland.
According to the press release from Milatovic’s office, the meeting reaffirmed friendly relations between Montenegro and Ireland, along with a shared commitment to European values, democracy and the strengthening of institutional cooperation.
“Connolly expressed her strong support for Montenegro’s European path, at a time when our country is entering the final phase of the reform process with the clear goal of full EU membership”, the press release said.
Milatovic thanked Ireland for its principled and consistent support for the enlargement policy, emphasizing that Montenegro is entering a decisive phase of its European journey, with a clear ambition to conclude accession negotiation and become a full member of the EU.
“The interlocutors assessed that Montenegro and Ireland, although geographically distant, share a strong European vision and the belief that a credible enlargement policy is in the interest of the stability and future of the entire continent”, Milatovic’s office stated.
Milatovic invited Connolly to visit Montenegro, assessing that it would be a strong incentive for the further development of bilateral relations and further strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
