Government adopts amendments to laws on internal affairs and ANB

Podgorica, (MINA) - The Government adopted on Thursday amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs and the Law on the National Security Agency (ANB), aligning the legislation with the EU directive that governs the protection of personal data.

The Government stated in a press release that, following several months of consultations with the European Commission, the conditions have been created for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation Directive.

“In this regard, at today’s session, the Government adopted 12 amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs and 12 amendments to the Law on ANB, which are the product of several months of consultations with the competent EC directorates” the press release says.

It is stated that the amendments fully enable the harmonization of the aforementioned laws with the GDPR, as part of Montenegro’s obligation in the process of closing negotiation chapters, and in line with the EC’s requirements.

The Government clarified that personal data within the meaning of the GDPR includes any information regarding personal identity or data which reveal political opinions, sexual orientation, racial or ethnic origin, financial status and others.

“It also includes data such as Internet search history, metadata on files created by a certain person, which can reveal their identity, data regarding their health status, property status, movement, habits, and other personal data, the publication or misuse of which could endanger an individual”, the press release added.
