Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The first tourism agency in Montenegro where persons with disabilities are both creators and providers of services, Accessibility Tour of Montenegro (ATOM), has become an example of how tourism can be more inclusive and how the work of persons with disabilities can be more visible and valued.
The ATOM agency was launched by the NGO Equivalent, with financial support from the European Union (EU) and co-funding from the Government of Montenegro, in partnership with the organizations Jadran Herceg Novi and the Association of the Blind of Bar and Ulcinj.
“Through this project, we demonstrated that persons with disabilities do not have to be only users of tourism services, but can also be their creators and providers,” said Svetlana Cicvaric of NGO Equivalent.
She added that the agency has continued operating even after the completion of the project activities, confirming the sustainability of the achieved results.
Through the agency, several practical solutions were developed to facilitate the planning and use of tourism services: an adapted van equipped with a wheelchair ramp, a digital QR map of accessible tourism and hospitality facilities, virtual 360-degree tours, and tactile 3D models that enable people with visual impairments to experience cultural and natural landmarks through touch.
