Polar Empress arrives around 10 p.m.

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The arrival of the Polar Empress, the ship that will start a 3D seismic imaging of the Ulcinj offshore area for the purpose of the potential oil and gas exploration, is expected around 10 p.m.

Head of the Department for Supervision and Control of Maritime Transport at the Maritime Safety Administration Zarko Luksic told Mina-business agency that the ship was entering the Adriatic Sea.

“The time of arrival at the Port of Bar is around 10 p.m. which will be followed by an operations approval by the Port Authority,” said Luksic.

He added that the ship would be undergoing preparations for the forthcoming works in the following several days.

“After this, the exploration will take 34 days, approximately until 21 December. Depending on the works, it might  take longer in case of bad weather,” said Luksic.

He said that the Maritime Safety Administration would start to broadcast radio announcements today, warming the seafarers about the ongoing works, which would continue until the end of the 3D imaging.

The exploration will cover around 1,200 square kilometres of the seabed, on the quadrants subject to a concession agreement with the Italian-Russian consortium of Eni and Novatek.
