Dollar exchange rate cannot interfere with stability of the banking system

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Governor of the Central Bank (CBCG), Radoje Zugic, has said that the fluctuation of the dollar exchange rate cannot jeopardize the stability of the banking sector in Montenegro, given that the share of dollar loans in the overall lending is very low.

At a Governors’ Club meeting with his counterparts from Asia, the Black Sea Region and the Balkans, he said that higher interest rates in the United States, compared with those in the European Union and Japan, very low unemployment rate, and this year’s strong growth had all contributed to the strengthening of the dollar.

“It is weakened by the current account deficit, budget deficit and public debt in the USA, witch are still at a high level,” said Zugic at the meeting, organized in Bucharest.
