Cooperation necessary for tackling the informal economy

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro (AmCham), the informal economy is a problem which cannot be addressed by applying a single ad hoc measure, while the cooperation of all stakeholders can bring the shadow economy down to the level that will not endanger the competitiveness of Montenegrin economy.

Chairman of the AmCham Informal Economy Committee Nikola Tripkovic says that the issues in that field should be resolved in a systemic manner, in cooperation with the authorities.

“In order for all market players to enjoy the same conditions and follow the same rules of the game, it is necessary to have further improvements in the area of law implementation. In addition, it is necessary to have more efficient Tax Administration,” Tripkovic said in an interview published in the AmCham Business Climate Report 2017-2018.

He believes that the efficiency of administration has improved significantly in the previous period.

“It is necessary to broadly apply business ethics as grey economy is a deeply rooted social issue,” said Tripkovic, who is a representative of Coca-Cola HBC.

He says that the main task of the state when tackling the shadow economy is to strengthen coordination among the institutions fighting the informal economy in order to exchange data and information.
