Available funds exceed guaranteed deposits

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Director of the Deposit Protection Fund, Predrag Markovic, has said that the amount of money it has available exceeds the guaranteed deposits with Atlas banka and Invest banka Montenegro (IBM).

He told Mina-business agency that certain funds of the depositors have been temporarily frozen, pursuant to a decision of interim administrator, adding that they could not be accessed before the expiry of the defined period.

“Their funds have been protected up to the amount of €50,000 per depositor and bank, meaning that there is no risk of losing a guaranteed deposit,” said Markovic.

On Friday, the Central Bank (CBCG) instituted an interim administration for Atlas bank and IBM, on the basis of the controls of these financial companies it had carried out.

The interim administration is a supervisory measure taken by the CBCG pursuant to the Banking Law, in order to improve the financial situation in Atlas banka and IBM, ensure their recovery, and protect the deposits of citizens and companies.

During the interim administration, all authorities of the banks’ bodies will be transferred to interim administrators.

At the proposal of interim administrators, the Central Bank has imposed a 45-day moratorium, temporarily suspending the payment of liabilities by the two financial companies.

This temporary suspension of payment of liabilities does not apply to the claims related to wages and other remunerations – salaries, pensions, social welfare of the banks’ creditors.
