Wildfire situation improving, vigilance still needed

Podgorica, (MINA) – The situation with wildfires in Montenegro has significantly improved, but there is no room for relaxation, since high temperatures demand vigilance, full focus and maximum commitment, team leaders of the Montenegrin, Austrian and Swiss fire brigades agreed during a Monday meeting.

The Ministry of the Interior (MUP) announced that Minister Danilo Saranovic and Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Becic visited the operations base at the Rescue and Protection Directorate, the Capital City Rescue and Protection Service, as well as other local units that have been directly involved in firefighting efforts.

“They spoke with the Montenegrin firefighters and all the participating services, as well as the European partner teams, expressing their personal gratitude for their exceptional dedication and selfless work”, the press release said.

The press release states that the recent rainfall additionally helped the firefighting operations, but that the system is fully prepared to continue action in order to completely neutralize the fire in all burned areas.

“This was an opportunity to reiterate that Montenegro, although outside the EU, has access to the CECIS platform – as the only country in the region, which confirms both high readiness of our rescue and protection system, as well as the trust we enjoy among European partners”, the press release said.
