Podgorica, (MINA) - The Government of Montenegro remains firmly committed to preserving the universal value of the natural and cultural and historical area of Kotor, as well as all other sites included on the World Heritage List, said Prime Minister Milojko Spajic at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
As part of his visit to Paris, he met with UNESCO Director General Khaled El-Enany, to discuss the preservation of Kotor’s remaining on the World Heritage List and improving cooperation between Montenegro and this international organization.
Spajic thanked UNESCO and its advisory bodies for their continuous cooperation, expert guidance and support in protecting the outstanding universal value of this World Heritage property.
He recalled the measures undertaken in the meantime, including the adoption of amendments to the Law on the Protection of the Natural and Cultural-Historical Area of Kotor, which officially introduced a moratorium within the World Heritage property and further strengthened the control system in the buffer zone.
“There is a strong political will to fight against all forms of spatial degradation. This Government will not budge even an inch. We also want to direct the private sector towards healthy and sustainable solution”, Spajic stressed.
El Enani said that he is grateful for the Government’s commitment to preserving the World Heritage site of Kotor.
“I admire your strong determination to preserve this heritage of humanity. You have made great efforts since last December. The report was submitted on time, as well as additional information, and I am very grateful for your personal and the Government’s commitment to preserving the heritage of Kotor”, said El-Enany.
During the meeting, it was pointed out that, after the completion of the Cultural Heritage Protection Study, the obligations undertaken towards UNESCO and the recommendations of expert bodies will be incorporated through amendments to the Spatial Plan of Montenegro.
