SDT appeals verdict in case of Vesna and Milos Medenica

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) appealed the first-instance verdict by the Special Division of the Podgorica High Court, in the case against former Supreme Court President Vesna Medenica, her son Milos and other defendants.

The SDT announced that they proposed that the Court of Appeal, as the second-instance court, amend the first-instance verdict and impose stricter sentences on Medenice and several other defendants, instead of lighter prison sentences and fines for some defendants.

The SDT recalls that Medenica had been found guilty of four counts of criminal offenses involving unlawful influence by the first instance court, while she was acquitted of criminal charges regarding to creating a criminal organization.

As they stated, her son Milos was acquitted for the extended criminal offense of facilitating the consumption of narcotic drugs and illegal possession of weapons and explosive materials, as well as for the criminal offense of inflicting grievous bodily harm through incitement.

The SDT said that they filed the appeal due to significant violations of criminal procedure provisions and wrongly and incompletely established factual situation, as well as the decision on sentencing.
