Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The United Reform Action (URA) called on the Government several weeks ago to urgently reduce fuel excise duties in order to ease the pressure on citizens’ living standards, but the authorities remain silent, said the party’s Secretary General, Mileta Radovanic.
“We also proposed amendments to the Law on Excise Duties, but the authorities remain silent, while fuel prices are expected to continue rising sharply due to recent changes,” Radovanic stated.
He warned that a new fuel price adjustment has already been announced, adding that it could bring an additional increase of up to 25 cents per liter, directly affecting transport costs as well as basic food prices.
“Every new increase in fuel prices automatically means more expensive transport, which in turn means higher prices for food in supermarkets. Citizens will very soon feel a chain wave of price increases, while the Government still fails to take any concrete measures,” Radovanic said.
He noted that many countries in the region have reacted more decisively to protect citizens’ living standards by reducing fuel excise duties.
