Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The steady rise of inflation since the beginning of this year is deeply concerning, said Mileta Radovanic, Secretary General of the United Reform Action (URA), adding that the Government should reinstate the “Stop Inflation” initiative.
“The Government shows neither sensitivity nor solutions when it comes to addressing the basic existential problems of citizens. Their attempts to cap prices have collapsed, while housing policy appears to be nothing more than a familiar deception that people have seen too many times before,” Radovanic stated in a press release.
He added that official statistics revealed a steady increase in inflation since January, which is now 4.7 percent higher than last year and twice the rate recorded in EU countries.
“What good are higher minimum wages and pensions if purchasing power remains the same, or worse? Today, fifty euros in a supermarket barely covers five or six essential food items,” Radovanic said.
According to him, the average salary alone does not reflect the real financial strength of citizens.
“When you factor in the consumer basket, the picture changes entirely. Even if the average salary reached €1,000, rising living expenses and constant price increases determine how much money people truly have in their wallets,” Radovanic explained.
He concluded that when soaring food prices are combined with skyrocketing rents, the challenges faced daily by many Montenegrin households become painfully clear.
