Prevot: Montenegro achieves significant results, expected to join EU soon

Podgorica, (MINA) - Montenegro is making a dynamic progress towards EU membership and can count on support of Belgium, one of the strongest advocates of the enlargement policy, it was announced during a meeting between Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic and Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Prevot.
According to the press release from the Ministry of European Affairs (MEA), Gorcevic thanked Belgium for its continued support for Montenegro’s EU accession.
She said that this is a key year for completion of a major job and that the Government is determined to achieve its goal of Montenegro becoming the 28th EU member by 2028.
Prevot expressed satisfaction with the accelerated pace of reform and said he expects Montenegro to close all chapters within the planned deadlines.
According to the press release, he said that Belgium monitors the implementation of requirements, and offered full political, technical and expert support, especially in the area of the rule of law, which is the backbone of Montenegro’s EU negotiation process.
Prevot underscored that he deliberately began his visit to the Western Balkans in Montenegro, as a sign of special support for the country as a frontrunner in the enlargement process.
According to him, Montenegro has shown that, with strong political will, dedication and work, it is possible to achieve great results in a short time.
