Podgorica, (MINA) – The amendments to the Law on the Status of the Descendants of the Petrovic Njegoc Dynasty do not grant or gift anything to anyone, but only return one of the 32 properties to the descendants of the dynasty, acquired over more than two centuries of state-building, development and defense of the Montenegrin state, said Milos Pizurica, MP of the Europe Now Movement (PES).
President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic returned the Law amending the Law on the Status of the Descendants of the Petrovic Njegos Dynasty to Parliament for reconsideration, stating that it is questionable whether it is compatible with the Constitution and the Law on the Protection of Cultural Property.
Pizurica said that he respects the constitutional right of Milatovic to return laws to the Parliament for a new vote.
However, he emphasized that he disagrees with the President’s decision not to sign the law that would finally regulate part of the state’s relationship with the Petrovic-Njegos dynasty.
As he said, that law was not adopted for the benefit of one family.
“It was adopted because of the state’s dignified attitude towards its own history and the people who created modern Montenegro, won its international recognition and left an indelible mark on its development”, Pizurica added.
He believes that the law’s importance lies in the fact that it was supported by MPs of different political options, as well as different national and religious communities.
