Nikolic: Spajic deceives public, no secret agreement with United Russia

Podgorica, (MINA) – The agreement between the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and United Russia does not stipulate that Montenegro’s European path would be stopped if it were in Russia’s interest, said head of DPS parliamentary group Andrija Nikolic, adding that Prime Minister Milojko Spajic once again misled the Montenegrin public with his statements made in the Parliament on Monday.

Nikolic presented the 2011 agreement between DPS and United Russia in the Parliament on Tuesday, after Spajic said during the Prime Minister’s Questions on Monday that the DPS had pledged in a secret agreement that Montenegro would not join the EU if it was against Russian interests.

According to Nikolic, Spajic misled the Montenegrin public with those statements once again in the Parliament.

“Although this does not require a special proof, as we clearly and directly addressed it on Monday in the Parliament, I brought the agreement from 2011 between the DPS and United Russia”, said Nikolic at the beginning of the session in which the Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj answered MPs’ questions.

Nikolic said that on Monday the complete DPS archive from 2011 and 2012 was searched and that the agreement signed on August 23, 2011 was found.

He stated that the agreement was signed on behalf of United Russia by the then Speaker of the Russian Duma Boris Gryzlov, and on behalf of the DPS by the then political director of the party, Branimir Gvozdenovic.

“This is the only agreement, made in two copies, one kept in Montenegro, the other in Russia. There is no secret agreement”, Nikolic pointed out.

According to him, the agreement contains provisions that are typical for agreements between parties at the international level, which often take a form of formal or informal international cooperation.

“There is not even a word about the DPS stopping Montenegro’s European path, if it is in Russia’s interest”, said Nikolic.
