MVP: 93 Montenegrin citizens seek assistance to return from Middle East

Podgorica, (MINA) - 93 Montenegrin citizens, most of them tourists, have requested assistance from Montenegro’s diplomatic and consular missions to return from several Middle Eastern countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced, adding that they do not have precise data on the total number of Montenegrin citizens living and working in the countries of that region.

The MFA told the MINA News Agency that requests for assistance were submitted by citizens seeking to return to Montenegro from Jordan, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran and Egypt.

“We are mainly talking about tourists who, due to the current circumstances, found themselves in the mentioned countries and expressed interest in returning to Montenegro, while some of them have already returned home”, the Ministry clarified.

They added that, according to the information of the Embassy of Montenegro in Abu Dhabi, about 160 Montenegrin citizens have regulated residential status in the UAE, with whom the Embassy is in contact.

The MFA said that they currently do not have precise data on the total number of Montenegrin citizens living and working in the countries of the Middle East, since there is no legal obligation to register with diplomatic and consular missions.

The Ministry pointed out that they are actively monitoring the situation and remain in constant communication with all Montenegrin citizens who have requested assistance, with the aim of providing adequate and timely support.
