Mujovic: Botun plant is essential for public health and EU integration process
Podgorica, (MINA) - The wastewater treatment system is essential for public health and the successful completion of Montenegro’s European integration process, said Podgorica Mayor Sasa Mujovic, adding that there is no alternative location if the Capital City is to avoid bankruptcy.
Mujovic said that he understands the mistrust of the citizens due to the past negative experience with KAP, but urged against wasting time “on superficial stories and criticism”, and focusing on solving the real problems of the locals – the remediation of the red mud basin.
“The wastewater treatment plant is essential for the public health and successful completion of Montenegro’s EU accession process”, stated Mujovic.
He expressed hope that there are no dilemmas about this, adding that any attempt to relativize the issue is at least as dangerous as untreated feces that freely flow down the River Moraca and into Lake Skadar.
Mujovic said that from the first day of his mandate he has been working on resolving this big and burdensome problem.
“Several alternative locations were considered, but they all had shortcomings that would unreasonably prolong the construction process”, stated Mujovic.
He said that, as Podgorica Mayor and a university professor, he feels obligated to speak out against attacks on all brave and courageous people from the Environmental Protection Agency, environmental activists and journalists.
