Mugosa: Hearing on inflation and its impact on living standards scheduled for tomorrow

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – A control hearing of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy Nik Gjeloshaj, focusing on inflation in Montenegro and its impact  on citizens’ living standards, will be held tomorrow during the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget.

The Chair of the Committee and head of the Social Democrats (SD) parliamentary club, Boris Mugosa, recalled that, at his initiative, the Parliament held a hearing with the relevant officials concerning prices in retail chains at the end of March.

“At that time, the Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget unanimously proposed concrete measures aimed at protecting citizens’ living standards and systematically addressing the issue of high prices. However, to this day, we have not received adequate responses from the relevant authorities,” Mugosa posted on X.

He added that inflation in Montenegro is more than twice as high as in EU countries from the euro area, and that the competent institutions are not taking appropriate measures to address the issue.

According to him, many of these measures are being implemented, or will be implemented, in EU countries to protect citizens’ living standards, including the ones where inflation is significantly lower than in Montenegro.
