Podgorica, (MINA) - Further democratization of Montenegrin society, conducted without politicization or negative historical revisionism, should lead to the final recognition of the innocent and civilian victims of the Second World War and the post-war period and the humane and dignified treatment of their remains.
This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister for the Political System, Justice and Anti-corruption, Momo Koprivica, and human rights activist Aleksandar Sasa Zekovic, who met ahead of the upcoming European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of All Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes.
According to the press release from Korpivica’s office, the two collocutors discussed how ongoing reforms and improvements of the political system can strengthen the environment for the protection and realization of human rights.
The press release states that the officials agreed that the decisions of the current government are particularly significant in addressing certain issues from the past, which have burdened society for decades and represented a long-standing avoidance of state responsibility for years of injustice.
Koprivica supported the joint initiative by archpriest Gojko Perovic, Zekovic and civil activist Vojin Grubac who called on the Government to form a commission to identify the locations of hidden graves from the Second World War and the post-war period.
