Montenegro to join common transit system on 1 November

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Customs Administration announced that Montenegro will become a full member of the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure (NCTS) on 1 November, which will bring a range of benefits for businesses.

“International transit of goods between Montenegro and other member countries of the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure, including EU countries, EFTA, the United Kingdom, Serbia, North Macedonia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Georgia, will now be carried out through the electronic NCTS system,” the press release said in a press release.

The Customs Administration reminded that the introduction of the common transit system offers numerous benefits for businesses, including faster and more efficient customs procedures, reduced paperwork (as all data is exchanged electronically), lower costs, and shorter border waiting times.

“We call on all companies involved in international goods transport to get acquainted in advance with the new rules and technical requirements for using the NCTS system. We would also like to remind them of the obligation to register in the system and obtain the necessary authorizations to carry out common transit,” the press release said.

Businesses that already use common guarantees in the transit procedure must submit new guarantees valid in the member states through whose territories shipments will transit.
