Milatovic’s office proposes Lekic as member of demarcation commission

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Office of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to appoint former diplomat Miodrag Lekic as a member of the Commission for demarcation and identification of the state border and drafting international agreements on the state border.
Milatovic’s office announced that the issues of Prevlaka and the state border are one of the most important issues of state sovereignty, territorial integrity and long-term protection of Montenegro’s interests.
Lekic is a former diplomat, ambassador of SFRY, FRY and Serbia and Montenegro, professor, politician and former minister of foreign affairs.
In the 1992-1995 period, he participated in the London Conference and peace negotiations in Geneva, where, in addition to the issue of peace in former Yugoslavia, the issue of Prevlaka was discussed.
Lekic served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro at the time when the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 779, which established a special status for Prevlaka.
The press release adds that, in addition to rich diplomatic experience, Lekic is the author of several works and a participant in numerous public debates concerning the Prevlaka and the state border issues.
