Milatovic: Montenegro in best position, time for stronger reforms and decisive diplomacy

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro is in the best position so far in the EU accession process, said President Jakov Milatovic, adding that it is time has come for stronger reforms and decisive diplomacy.

Milatovic attended the Munich Security Conference, where, according to the press release from his office, he held intensive meetings with European and international officials, discussing Montenegro’s European perspective, the need for stronger diplomatic engagement and the continuation of fundamental reforms.

Speaking about key messages from European partners, Milatovic emphasized that during his visit to Munich he had a series of talks at the highest level, which confirm the continued interest and support of European allies.

“I had numerous meetings, including the one with French President Macron. I expect to visit Paris soon, where we will continue our conversation”, said Milatovic, stressing the importance of maintaining continuous political dialogue with France.

During the meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Milatovic pointed out the importance of the transatlantic partnership in the current geopolitical context.

In terms of global security challenges, Milatovic singled out the messages coming from the USA, adding that the message by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is very encouraging.

He assessed that such signals provide additional impetus for deepening bilateral relations between Montenegro and the USA, recalling the initiative on the intergovernmental agreement between the two countries.

The messages coming from the conference, according to Milatovic, give reason for optimism.

“It seems to me that the door for Montenegro is truly open”, he added.
