HPP Piva is a pillar of Montenegro’s energy stability and development

HPP Piva is a pillar of Montenegro’s energy stability and development

Pluzine, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Chairman of the Board of Directors of Elektroprivreda (EPCG) Milutin Djukanovic, Hydropower Plant (HPP) Piva has been one of the key pillars of stability of Montenegro’s power system over the past five decades, thanks to generations of employees who managed to preserve, improve, and modernize the facility.

Speaking at a ceremony in Pluzine marking the 50th anniversary of the commissioning of HPP Piva, he said that electricity is one of Montenegro’s greatest development opportunities and that HPP Piva should serve as inspiration for the implementation of new energy projects.

“HPP Piva should inspire all of us to think about how we will create new sources of electricity. Over the past several years, EPCG has been striving to respond to the challenges of the energy transition and help Montenegro become a country of prosperous people, and in Montenegro it is difficult to create a better product than electricity,” Djukanovic said.

As reported by Mediabiro, the ceremony was attended by representatives of EPCG, the local government, partner companies, as well as former and current employees of HPP Piva.

EPCG Executive Director Zdravko Dragas said the jubilee represents much more than marking an important date in the company’s history.

According to him, HPP Piva has for decades symbolized reliability, responsible resource management, and long-term strategic thinking about the country’s development, adding that the experience of HPP Piva should also encourage serious, responsible, and inclusive discussions about new hydropower projects.
