Government adopts Bill on Local Government

 

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Government of Montenegro established on Thursday the Bill on Local Government, which is aligned with European standards of decentralization and corresponds to the real needs and situation in the country, announced Minister of Public Administration, Marash Dukaj.

 

He said that, after more than three years of continuous dialogue, they reached ta final draft, which is ready for consideration by the Parliament of Montenegro.

 

“We have prepared a law that is harmonized with European standards of decentralization and created a model that corresponds to the real needs and situation in Montenegro”, said Dukaj at the press conference following the Government session.

 

He said, according to the press release from the Ministry of Public Administration, that the essence of the reform is to give local communities greater responsibility, but also a greater opportunity to decide on their own development.

 

“This is not merely an administrative reform. This is the new development policy for Montenegro, in which municipalities are given a stronger role to improve their communities, develop local potentials and be directly accountable to citizens for the results they achieve”, emphasized Dukaj.
