Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The decision of the Constitutional Court regarding work-free Sundays is binding on everyone and cannot be subject to relativization or political interpretation, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj.

“After that decision, it is our responsibility to find a solution that is fully in line with the Constitution,” Gjeloshaj stated in a press release.

The Constitutional Court adopted a decision to repeal Article 35a of the Law on Internal Trade as unconstitutional, effectively abolishing work-free Sundays for retail businesses.

Gjeloshaj said that he cannot accept attempts to undermine the decision of the Constitutional Court, nor efforts to once again impose as a solution something that has already been declared unconstitutional. 

He added that such an approach is irresponsible and directly undermines trust in institutions.

“I support only a solution that implements the decision of the Constitutional Court through legislation, in accordance with its role as the guardian of constitutionality and citizens’ rights,” Gjeloshaj said.
