DPS: Threats to DPS officials reflect unhealthy atmosphere; institutions must react efficiently

Podgorica, (MINA) - Threats against MPs and officials of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Ivan Vukovic and Oskar Huter and his family, are a reflection of the unhealthy atmosphere that has been created in Montenegrin society, the DPS announced.

The party stated that they will not be intimidated by daily threats and called on the competent authorities to act efficiently in identifying and sanctioning those who threatened Vukovic and Huter on social networks.

“We consider criticism legitimate, because we believe that we can only grow on the basis of healthy criticism, but we clearly underline that threats, insults, hate speech in the digital space are not something we should accept as normality and routine, especially when the families of officials are openly targeted”, said the DPS.

According to them, the current environment in Montenegro sends the message that everything is allowed.

They emphasized that the competent authorities must therefore show greater efficiency in identifying individuals and sanctioning “those who use social networks in a way that endangers someone’s safety and, ultimately, their life”.
