DNP submits supplements to Law on State Symbols, proposes tricolor as people’s flag

DNP submits supplements to Law on State Symbols, proposes tricolor as people’s flag

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Democratic People’s Party (DNP) has submitted to the parliamentary procedure supplements to the Law on State Symbols, which calls for the introduction of the tricolor as the people’s historical flag.

DNP President Milan Knezevic said at the press conference that the party did not propose amendments, but supplements to the law.

He said that the supplements specify that the people’s flag would be permanently displayed on the Parliament building and the President’s residence, alongside the national flag.

Knezevic stated that, according to the proposed supplements, the people’s flag should be displayed on the National Day of Montenegro and on other national holidays, and that it should be lowered to half-mast on days of mourning.

He said that the people’s flag could also be displayed during international meetings, political, cultural, artistic, scientific and sports events, at the buildings of local government and public institutions.

Knezevic said that the people’s flag has a continuous constitutional foundation and that he expects support from all members of parliament.

“I expect everyone to be delighted with this historic people’s flag, because this is the flag from the 1905 Constitution. I don’t see any reason why anyone would oppose the people’s flag, which in no way threatens the national flag”, said Knezevic.

He announced that at the beginning of the spring session of the Parliament he would submit a bill on dual citizenship.

When asked about the situation in the Capital City administration, Knezevic said that he expects Podgorica Mayor Sasa Mujovic to resign.

“Because he is now a former mayor and does not have a majority in the Capital City Assembly, unless he forms it with the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS). And if that is the case, then the other members of the government will have to declare whether they are prepared to form a coalition with the DPS”, said Knezevic.
