Djurovic and Vucurovic propose amendments to Petrovic Njegos dynasty law

Djurovic and Vucurovic propose amendments to Petrovic Njegos dynasty law

Podgorica, (MINA) - New Serbian Democracy MPs Dejan Djurovic and Jovan Vucurovic have proposed amendments to the Law on the Status of Descendants of the Petrovic Njegos Dynasty, which would delete the provision stating that the dynasty was “dethroned contrary to the Constitution for the Principality of Montenegro by the act of violent annexation in 1918”.

Under the proposed amendments, Article 1 would read: “For the sake of historical and moral rehabilitation of the Petrovic Njegos dynasty, this law regulates matters of importance for the status of the descendants of the Petrovic Njegos dynasty”.

Vucurovic said that it is important to remove, as he said, one-sided historical interpretations contained in the current text of the draft.

“The Petrovics belong to the whole of Montenegro and we should at least be united at some issues. The narrative of annexation is unfounded, as there was neither annexation of Montenegro nor forced annexation. In 1918, the people of Montenegro were overwhelmingly in favor of unification, and that is the age-old aspiration of our people and one of the most significant events in our history”, Vucurovic said in a press release.
