Criminal charges against Kovacevic dismissed
Podgorica, (MINA) - The Higher State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT) in Podgorica has dismissed criminal charges against Niksic Mayor Marko Kovacevic, in the regarding his speech at the anniversary of the Battle of Grahovac in June last year.
The VDT stated that the case was opened on their own initiative, and that, after conducting an investigation and questioning Kovacevic, they assessed that there is no reasonable suspicion that he had committed the criminal offense of inciting national, racial and religious hatred, or any other offense prosecuted ex officio.
“However, Kovacevic, in this specific speech, did use hate speech and thus committed a misdemeanor. For that reason, the VDT in Podgorica has submitted a request to initiate misdemeanor proceedings in front of the Misdemeanors Court”, the press release states.
