Construction of waste water treatment plant proceeds according to plan

Podgorica, (MINA) – The construction of the waste water treatment plant in Podgorica is going according to plan, said chief supervising engineer Richard Sampson, adding that it is a key solution for the further development of the Capital City.

The Podgorica Water and Sewerage Company said that representatives of the EU, the Investment Framework for the Western Balkans, the German Development Bank, as well as relevant Montenegrin institutions in the field of ecology and European integration, visited the wastewater treatment plant construction site on Thursday, to review the current project status and the dynamics of the works on the ground.

Sampson said that the works are progressing according to plan and that the facility represents a key solution for the further development of the Capital City.

He stated that the priority is to demonstrate that the plant is in the process of active construction, that it will be put into operation in the coming years, and that it will provide Podgorica with the water purification system it needs for further development, but also enable the preservation of the River Moraca and Lake Skadar.

The director of Podgorica Waterworks and Sewerage Aleksandar Nisavic emphasized the importance of the continuous support that the project receives from European institutions.

“The construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Podgorica is a project of public and national interest, crucial for the protection of public health, the preservation of the River Moraca and Lake Skadar, as well as meeting European environmental protection standards”, the press release stated.
