Concern expressed over silence surrounding the Velje Brdo project

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Tenants’ Association has voiced concern over what they described as complete silence surrounding the Velje Brdo project, which was announced as a historic opportunity for tenants, young people, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups to secure homes.

The NGO stated in a press release that a Government Coordination Body was established, headed by Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism, and State Property Slaven Radunovic, and composed of representatives from several public institutions.

Prime Minister Milojko Spajic personally took part in presenting the project and launching the application portal.

“However, after the initial media announcements, there have been no publicly released deadlines for when construction will begin, no explanation of the criteria for who will be eligible for housing and based on what priorities, no response to dozens of our letters and emails to the Ministry of Spatial Planning, and no communication with citizens who have already submitted applications and thereby shown their interest and trust in the authorities,” the press release reads.

According to the Association, the process has been shrouded in silence rather than conducted transparently.

“The promised construction and move-in deadline is rapidly approaching, as early as next year. That is precisely why we are asking the Coordination Body whether you have held any meetings so far, whether it has taken any steps to prepare the project, and whether it plans to inform the highly interested public about what you are doing,” the press release states.

They also asked whether Velje Brdo is still an active Government project or whether it was merely a political performance that ended when the spotlights were turned off.
