CGO: Consumer safety must be a priority

CGO: Consumer safety must be a priority

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Ahead of World Consumer Rights Day, the Centre for Civic Education (CGO) called on the relevant institutions to improve market surveillance, strengthen out-of-court protection mechanisms, and ensure timely and transparent information on risks and the withdrawal of unsafe products from the market.

“Consumer safety must be a priority, not only on paper, but also in practice,” CGO stated in a press release.

The NGO added that this year’s global theme, “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” sends a clear message that product safety must be the rule, not the exception.

CGO recalled that the European Commission (EC), in its report on Montenegro for last year, emphasized the need for further alignment of national legislation with the EU acquis in the field of product safety and consumer protection.

According to CGO, the EC also warned that the low level of activity by local administrations remains a serious challenge.
