Belgian-Dutch Constituency sends a strong message of support to Montenegro from the highest level

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Jeroen Clicq, Executive Director of the Belgian-Dutch Constituency at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, available data and the reforms indicate that Montenegro is pursuing a responsible and sustainable economic policy, which can serve as an example for other EU candidate countries.

Clicq met with a team from the Ministry of Finance, led by Minister Novica Vukovic, to strengthen cooperation and exchange views on key economic reforms and challenges Montenegro is implementing on its path towards European Union membership.

Vukovic presented the latest macroeconomic indicators, showing positive trends, as well as important reforms Montenegro has carried out over the past year.

“Particular progress was highlighted in aligning legislation with European standards, especially in the areas of accounting, auditing, and statistics, state aid, games of chance regulation, internal financial controls in the public sector, and budget inspection,” the Ministry stated in a press release.

Clicq noted that Montenegro’s EU membership would benefit not only the country itself but also the European Union, in terms of additional stability in the region.

He added that Montenegro’s experience in implementing excise policies, combating smuggling, and improving public health protection is an example of best practice that other constituency members should follow.
