Podgorica, (MINA) - Alongside the official state flag of Montenegro, only the Montenegrin tricolor with the coat of arms from the time of the Kingdom of Montenegro may be displayed, said President of the Municipality of Zabljak Rados Zugic.

In a press release, Zabljak said that he is obliged to respect the decisions of the Municipal Assembly, but also to implement them in accordance with the law and civic principles on which Montenegro rests.

He stated that the Zabljak Municipal Assembly had adopted a decision to display the flag of the Serbian people in addition to the national flag of Montenegro.

Zugic said that, as a mayor who respects the will of the local parliamentary majority and democratic principles, it is his duty to implement the Assembly’s decisions, but also that he is obligated to ensure that their implementation complies with the law and does not undermine the civic character of the municipality.

He said that, as a resident of Zabljak, whose homeland is Montenegro, and as a descendant of those who built and liberated it, he has no issue with any state symbol that testifies to the historical continuity of Montenegro.

“That’s why I have decided and will be maintain the position, that alongside the official state flag of Montenegro, only the Montenegrin tricolor with the coat of arms from the time of the Kingdom of Montenegro may be displayed”, said Zugic.
