Podgorica, (MINA) – The strike illegal assets is the most effective tool in the fight against corruption and organized crime, said vice-president of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP) Milun Zogovic, emphasizing that instead of spectacular arrests in front of the cameras, the priority must be the systematic recovering of billions of EUR to the budget.

According to him, without this, justice remains incomplete, and trust in institutions is weak.

Zogovic said that estimates show that several billion euros have been extracted from the economy through various forms of abuse.

He noted that it is not realistic to expect that all that money can be recovered, but that the experiences of other countries show that it is possible to return a significant portion if there is a serious and consistent system.

Zogovic added that focus must therefore be on financial investigations, confiscation of assets and transparent management of recovered funds.

“The verification of the assets of all officials must not be formal, but carried out through automatic cross-checking of data, which should reveal any discrepancies between the declared legal income and actual assets”, said Zogovic.
