Podgorica, (MINA) – EU enlargement policy today represents much more than an administrative process, said Montenegro’s Chief EU Negotiator Predrag Zenovic, emphasizing that it also represents a geostrategic and geoeconomic necessity of the Union itself.
Zenovic participated at the GLOBSEC forum in Prague, dedicated to the future of South-Eastern Europe, regional cooperation and the EU enlargement policy.
The Ministry of European Affairs (MEP) announced that Zenovic, speaking about the current geopolitical moment and the importance of European integration for the region, said that today’s enlargement policy is much more than an administrative process of joining the EU.
“The EU enlargement represents a geostrategic and geoeconomic necessity for the Union itself, but also a safe framework for strengthening regional cooperation based on the rule of law, economic convergence and good neighborly relations”, Zenovic said.
He emphasized that the European project, despite contemporary challenges, remains essentially a project of peace, stability and prosperity.
Speaking about the European perspective of the region, Zenovic assessed that Montenegro’s EU membership, as the next EU member, would be a strong confirmation that the enlargement policy is still credible and strategically oriented towards the future of the entire Western Balkans.
The press release stated that special attention at the forum was paid to the need for stronger regional connectivity, creating better opportunities for young people, improving economic resilience and strengthening political stability of the Western Balkans in the context of changing global relations and security challenges.
