Podgorica, (MINA) - Women in Montenegro continue to face political exclusion, violence and systemic discrimination, participants said during the March 8 march in Podgorica organized by the NGO Center for Women’s Rights (CZP).
Maja Raicevic from this NGO said that this year marks ten years since the renewal of the March 8 march in Montenegro.
“We say renewal, because we didn’t invent the march. It was established long before us by our ancestors – women who knew that rights are not given as a gift, but won through solidarity, persistence and courage”, Raicevic said.
She said that each of the marches served as a reminder that equality is not a finished story, but something that must conquered each year, with every step.
“We live in a time of wars and conflicts that hit civilians the hardest – and especially women and children. Today we send solidarity to the women of Palestine, Ukraine, Iran, and all those who live in war zones, to those who, in unimaginable circumstances, are fighting to preserve their lives, their families and hope for peace”, stated Raicevic.
Psychologist Tanja Markus said that women in Montenegro still face political exclusion, violence and systemic discrimination.
As she added, these are not private problems, but political consequences.
“Today we do not celebrate. Today we connect, organize and oppose. We learn from each other. We build a community of resistance. The struggle continues – today and tomorrow – until equality becomes a reality”, said Markus.
