Wizz Air to open a base in Podgorica on 30 March

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Wizz Air, the largest airline in Montenegro, is preparing to open its new base at Podgorica Airport on 30 March, marking an important step in the company’s further expansion in Montenegro and bringing new travel opportunities for passengers in the country.

With the opening of the base, Wizz Air will station two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft in Podgorica and launch 17 new routes connecting Montenegro’s capital with key European cities: Malmo, Paris, Hamburg, Maastricht, Catania (Sicily), Bratislava, Barcelona, Basel, Rzeszow, Rome, Baden-Baden, Cologne, Ljubljana, Poznan, Vilnius, Gdansk, and Wrocław.

Airports of Montenegro and Wizz Air stated in a press release that this expansion will bring an additional one million seats this year, significantly increasing Podgorica’s connectivity and making it easier for passengers to explore Europe, while also attracting more international visitors to Montenegro.

Managing Director of Wizz Air Hungary Roland Tischner said that this month marks an important milestone not only for Wizz Air, but also for Montenegro.

“I am proud to announce that we will officially open our newest base at Podgorica Airport on 30 March,” said Tischner.

According to him, Podgorica will become the 37th base in Wizz Air’s growing network, further strengthening its position as a key gateway between Montenegro and the rest of the continent.

Executive Director of Airports of Montenegro Roko Tolic said that the company now faces “welcome challenges.”

“On one hand, we are happy to have met the wishes and needs of citizens and businesses: 17 new routes agreed with just one airline partner, Wizz Air, in a single wave is a result that usually takes years. On the other hand, we are aware that we operate with limited infrastructure capacity. Passenger comfort may be secondary, but safety and security will continue to be maintained at the highest international standards,” said Tolic.

He expressed confidence that their employees will professionally handle the increased traffic and the challenging season ahead, adding that Podgorica Airport is ready to operate almost 24 hours a day.
