Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The World Bank (WB) has lowered its projection for Montenegro’s economic growth this year by 0.3 percentage points to 2.9 percent.
In its latest forecasts, the WB estimates that Montenegro’s economy will grow by 3.1 percent next year, which is 0.1 percentage points lower than its autumn projections.
The WB expects that Montenegro’s economy will expand by 3.1 percent in 2028.
In the section of its Western Balkans Regular Economic Report dedicated to Montenegro, the WB stated that growth slowed to 2.7 percent last year, reflecting lower electricity production
and softer tourism.
“The fiscal deficit widened from 3.3 to 4.3 percent of GDP in 2025, reducing policy space and increasing financing needs,” the Report states.
As European Union (EU) accession advances, stronger fiscal discipline and rebuilding buffers will be key to safeguarding stability and supporting growth.
“Montenegro’s small, highly open, and euroized economy is structurally exposed to external shocks,” the World Bank concluded.
