Podgorica, (MINA) – Without intensifying the process, Montenegro will not close all chapters in the negotiations with the European Union (EU) this year, according to Democratic Party of Socialists MP Ivan Vukovic.
Vukovic shared his impressions about the state of Montenegro’s European integration process on X social network following a several-day visit to Brussels.
He pointed out that the support of the EU is still very strong, and that Montenegro is falling behind schedule and losing focus.
“Instead of the unofficially announced ten, now it is realistic to close only four chapters (2, 9, 28, 29) by July”, said Vukovic.
As he said, two more chapters could be ready for closing by July.
“Without intensifying the process, we will not close all chapters this year despite earlier announcements”, said Vukovic.
He pointed out that no intergovernmental conference is planned for April and that the method of work of the working group tasked with drafting the accession treaty is still under consideration.
According to Vukovic, serious concern was expressed over the political consequences of the adoption of the laws on the National Security Agency and internal affairs.
He said that three visits of Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic to the Republika Srpska and none to any EU country were registered this year, adding that the visit by Deputy Prime Minister to Budapest during the election campaign was also registered.
