Vukovic: No risk of a Greek scenario

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Finance Novica Vukovic said that Montenegro’s public finances are not under threat, adding that there is no risk of a so-called Greek scenario.

Responding to MPs’ questions, he stated that there are no economic indicators linking the “Europe Now 1 and 2” programmes to a so-called Greek scenario.

“A comprehensive analysis of macroeconomic trends confirms that system stability has been preserved, along with significant development and social effects,” Vukovic said, replying to a question from MP Boris Pejovic of the Europe Now Movement (PES).

When asked to what extent the implementation of the Europe Now 1 and 2 programmes has endangered public finances and whether there are any bankruptcy forecasts, Vukovic responded that the fiscal system shows high resilience.

“Improved fiscal discipline has strengthened fiscal stability, contributing to increased confidence among investors and citizens,” Vukovic said.

He recalled that, according to preliminary data, budget revenues amounted to €2.87 billion, or 35.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), at the end of last year.
