Velje Brdo a good example for other countries

Velje Brdo a good example for other countries

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property, Slaven Radunovic believes that Velje Brdo, as a project characterized by a strong social component, could serve as a useful example for other countries facing the challenges of urbanization and rising housing prices.

“That is why we do not view this project solely as a national initiative, but also as an opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices in the field of sustainable urban development,” Radunovic said at the World Urban Forum WUF13 in Baku, organized by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

Radunovic presented the Velje Brdo project — the largest infrastructure project and at the same time one of the largest state projects in Montenegro’s history.

According to him, Montenegro’s experience offers a particularly strong and timely example in the field of affordable housing policies and sustainable urban development.

In addition to the already well-known 1000+ homes programme, which improved access to affordable housing through subsidized support models, the Velje Brdo project was presented as the next generation of an integrated approach to urban development.

It was pointed out that Velje Brdo has been recognized as one of the most important new residential zones for the future urban development of Podgorica, linked to the broader efforts to address the needs of middle-income households for affordable and quality housing.
