Podgorica, (MINA) – Since the beginning of the year, police have seized 338 weapons and more than 8,600 rounds of ammunition, the Police Administration announced, adding that the fight against illegal weapons remains one of their absolute priorities.

The police stated that since the beginning of the year, their officers have conducted 452 searches of premises used by members of organized criminal groups, persons of operational interest and their associates, as well as citizens suspected of involvement in the commission of criminal acts.

“The results of these searches are concrete and measurable – a total of 338 weapons and 8,651 rounds of ammunition were seized”, said the police.

They added that, at the same time, significant amounts of particularly dangerous materials were also seized, namely, 144 pieces of explosives, 15 explosive devices, 2,950 grams of commercial explosives, as well as 500 grams of gunpowder.

The police stated that through the preventive campaign “Respect life, return weapons”, it was confirmed that the responsible behavior of citizens plays a key role in strengthening security.

According to the police, 181 weapons and 2,206 rounds of ammunition of various calibers were voluntarily surrendered, further reducing the risk of misuse.
