Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, structural measures, implemented in accordance with the Law on Structural Measures and State Aid in Fisheries and Aquaculture, contribute to the modernization of fisheries, environmental protection, and the economic development of fishing communities.
“Structural measures provide a set of activities and financial instruments that support fisheries and aquaculture development, enhance sector competitiveness, and promote sustainable management of aquatic biological resources,” the Ministry said in a press release.
These measures aim to reduce economic, social, and territorial disparities in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, as well as to promote sustainable development in the sector.
Structural measures in fisheries and aquaculture are implemented through several key priorities, including promoting sustainable fishing and the conservation of aquatic biological resources, developing sustainable aquaculture activities, processing and marketing fisheries and aquaculture products, developing a sustainable blue economy, and supporting the development of fishing and aquaculture communities in coastal and inland areas.
“Funding for the implementation of structural measures is provided by the European Union, through international agreements, donations, and from Montenegro's budget. These funds are earmarked to finance projects and activities that contribute to the development and modernization of the fisheries and aquaculture sector,” the Ministry specified.
Structural measures are planned and implemented through the multi-annual fisheries and aquaculture programme and other strategic documents that define priorities, goals, and activities in the sector. The programme is adopted by the Government at the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.
