Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Party of European Progress, Montenegro’s economy and its citizens can no longer bear the pressure caused by rising energy prices and basic food costs, market instability, and global crises without concrete and timely state support.
“We are witnessing that the crises in Ukraine, political instability in the Middle East, as well as the global rise in oil and energy prices, have directly affected the economy and the standard of living of citizens,” the party said in a press release.
The party noted the country is additionally affected by domestic political tensions that prevent the adoption of appropriate economic and social measures.
“While Montenegro stands at the doorstep of the European Union, citizens are witnessing the increase in prices of basic goods, fuel, utility services, and housing costs on a daily basis,” the press release added.
The Party of European Progress insists on urgent and comprehensive measures that the state must undertake.
“Economic support for citizens is needed through subsidies and incentives for the most vulnerable groups, as well as direct support for utility and energy costs; support for the economy through a package of tax relief measures and credit lines for small and medium-sized enterprises to preserve jobs and market stability; and energy security through a strategic plan to reduce dependence on imported energy sources and diversify energy supply,” the party said.
The Party of European Progress called on the Government to prioritize concrete measures to protect citizens and the economy, noting that no nation can survive a long-term crisis without responsible state policy.
