Starlink to enter Montenegrin market by end of second quarter

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (EKIP) announced that global satellite operator Starlink is expected to enter the Montenegrin market by the end of the second quarter.

According to a press release from EKIP, this is expected to contribute to greater availability and a more diverse offering in the internet access services segment.

EKIP and Starlink have continued talks, launched in 2023, on the regulatory requirements and procedures for the entry of the global satellite operator into Montenegro’s public electronic communications services market.

“At the meeting held on 9 February, all administrative and procedural aspects of the registration process for the provision of public electronic communications networks and services in Montenegro were discussed in detail, including the rights and obligations arising from entry into the Register of Operators,” the statement said.

In order to obtain operator status, Starlink has initiated the procedure to register a company based in Montenegro, after which it will submit an application for entry into EKIP’s Register of Operators.

“Starlink expects that the necessary conditions for the start of service provision to users in Montenegro will be met by the end of the second quarter of this year,” EKIP said.

According to the regulatory authority, the Starlink satellite constellation consists of more than 6,750 satellites currently in orbit, providing high-speed internet to millions of active users worldwide,” the statement said.
