Podgorica, (MINA) - The Government of Montenegro has not made a decision to pay war compensation to victims of the Morinj POW camp, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said.
He made this statement during the Prime Minister’s Questions session, responding to the Democratic People’s Party MP Milan Knezevic who asked whether the Government made a decision to pay EUR 17 million war compensation to the “alleged camp inmates” in Morinj.
Knezevic requested that Spajic, if there is such a decision, provide a list of those who voted in favor.
He said that the Government of Montenegro, by deciding to pay compensation to the “non-existent victims” of the Morinj camp, desecrates the memory of victims from the Niksic-Savnik held in the Lora camp.
“You are ready to accept any ultimatum from Croatia in order to remain in your power as long as possible”, said Knezevic, calling on Spajic to disclose which members of the Government voted in favor of the decision.
“Such a decision has not been made”, Spajic said, adding that he hoped that Knezevic had visited two wastewater treatment plants in the municipality of Kladovo during his recent visit to the neighboring country.
Leader of the Croatian Civic Initiative, Adrijan Vuksanovic, asked Spajic what the Government would do to return property or fairly compensate the citizens of Montenegro of Croatian nationality.
According to Vuksanovic, it is one of the open bilateral issues between Montenegro and Croatia, and it also concerns the rule of law and negotiation chapters 23 and 24.
Spajic said that citizens in Montenegro are not divided on any basis – national or ethnic.
“I will advocate for each of our citizens to exercise their right. You can count on my support in resolving such cases for all citizens of Montenegro. If there was any injustice, I am your ally to correct it”, Spajic said.
Speaking about the relations with Croatia, Spajic said that he would do his best to further improve them.
