Podgorica, (MINA) – Construction works along the Baosici coast must be halted immediately in order to protect the exceptional universal value of the World Heritage site, to which the area belongs, said Prime Minister Milojko Spajic.
He said that the construction was not approved by the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property, nor was a conservation project approved, which is why the Protector of Property and Legal Interests initiated proceedings to revoke the construction permit.
As Spajic stated on the X social network, criminal charges were filed to determine responsibility.
“UNESCO has been officially informed, with the message that the state is committed to protecting World Heritage, in accordance with the recently adopted amendments to the law”, said Spajic.
In a letter to director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, he confirmed that Montenegro has taken urgent measures in regard to the works in Baosici, within the buffer zone of the World Heritage site “Natural and cultural-historical area of Kotor”.
He emphasized that Montenegro will take all additional measures to restore the affected coastal area to its original state and mitigate all negative impacts caused by the intervention, in order to preserve the exceptional universal value of the site.
