Podgorica, (MINA) – The Media Trade Union of Montenegro (SMCG) has strongly condemned the death threats addressed at Standard portal journalist Kristina Perkovic, adding that it is another in a series of serious attacks on journalists in Montenegro.

The SMCG said that the brutal and explicit nature of the threats is concerning, as well as the fact that they target the journalist and her family.

The SMCG recalls warning for a long time that female journalists are becoming more often targets of threats, harassment and sexist attacks online, as evidenced by SMCG survey.

“Last year alone, we had 12 such attacks, while since the beginning of this year, three more of our female colleagues were victims of online violence”, the press release said.

They stated that such situation requires an urgent, decisive and effective reaction from the institutions and competent authorities, who have at their disposal stricter Criminal Code which should be applied consistently and without delays.
