Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a meeting of the Montenegro Customs Information System (MECIS) programme that the modernization of the customs information system is important for Montenegro’s accession to the European Union, as the new system will enable the alignment of Montenegro’s customs environment with European requirements and practice.
The Customs Administration said in a press release that the programme is being implemented as part of Slovenia’s donation to Montenegro. Following a public procurement procedure, the company ZZI was selected to develop, adapt, integrate and implement the information solutions.
The kick-off meeting of the programme, which marks an important step in the modernization of Montenegro’s customs information system as part of its EU accession process, was held in Podgorica on Tuesday and today.
“MECIS includes several interconnected projects, joint supporting components, integrations with national and European systems, as well as activities related to introducing the new system into the production environment. The purpose of the kick-off meeting was to harmonize the programme framework, methods of cooperation, key roles, interdependencies, risks and the first activities following the launch of the programme,” the press release reads.
The modernization of the customs information system is also important in the context of Montenegro’s planned accession to the European Union in 2028, as the new system will enable the harmonization of Montenegro’s customs environment with European requirements and practices.
